Day 3

Victor: Well today was a pretty good day for him, when we went this morning they turned off the UV light they had him on so we got a chance to see our little mans face. He was down to about 27% on the vent and they took him completly off of his blood pressure medicine and was doing a great job keeping it up. They started him on a slow insulin drip because his sugars started to go up but again thats something they expect right now. So when we went back tonight they had him all the way down to 21% oxygen which is the lowest setting on the vent! So he is doing good with that. We found out that he did in fact have a small opening (PDA) in his heart but it was nothing that is going to cause concern because that is also normal for babies this young, they have given him some medicine for it and will be keeping and eye on it. He also lost a little weight he is now a little under 2 pounds but again nothing that they are worried about. So all and all it was a good day for our little man.

Carlos: Our little guy Carlos is actually getting bigger! He now weighs about 1 pound 11oz! When we arrived this morning Carlos was on about 50% on his vent. His blood sugar levels were up and down all night, and when we got there this morning they said it was looking better and had turned his insulin down a little bit. They also took him off of his blood pressure medications because he was doing so good shortly after they decided to do a second blood transfusion because they had not given him enough yesterday and that also helped with his blood pressure. Tonight we went in and found out that they also took him off his insulin drip! His blood sugar levels were looking good, and his vent was down to about 40% so our little man is going in the right direction. They did tell us that he hates getting his diaper changed, and makes a big fuss about which is opposite of his brother who didn't make any fuss over his diaper. So I guess today was a good day for us and we hope we can stay in this direction.
