The Road to Birth

Hello and welcome to our blog, we will use this to update and keep track of our boys Victor and Carlos who were born early at 25weeks and 5days. We know the road will be long and rough but these boys have been through so much already we know that they are gonna fight on strong. Just a little background first before we get to the birth.
Early on in the pregnancy we found out that ours boys had Twin To Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), basically one baby gets too much of the nutrients, leaving the other baby to basically starve the result could be deadly for both babies. Luckily we were put into the hands of great doctors at The University Of Maryland Medical Center, there they could perform a laser abrasion to close the blood vessels between them giving each boy an equal share and both a chance at survival. The surgery went as good as it could, the doctor said that it was probably the hardest procedure he has ever had to do but he felt that he did enough to make a difference.
So since then we had a brief stay in Richmond and ultimately we ended up here at the Norfolk hospital where she has been for the last two weeks. She leaked on and off until yesterday when she began having contractions. She really didn't think too much of them because they didn't hurt too much and weren't very close together, so the doctor came in and checked her out to see if anything was going on, we soon found out that she was 7cm dilated! We were rushed to an operating room for an emergency c-section. It must have been no longer than a half hour from when we found out that ours boys would be delivered until she was cut open at 6:32pm a minute later at 6:33pm Victor Albert Flores VI weighing 2pounds 2oz and 13 1/2 inches long was born kicking and punching letting out little cries! One minute later at 6:34pm Carlos Roberto Flores was born weighing 1pound 9oz and 12 1/4 inches long in the same fashion as his brother. We only got to see them for a couple minutes before they took them to the children's hospital next door where they will be until it is time for us to bring them home. Iliana is doing fine and is recovering from the c-section nicely. We know that the next couple of months are gonna be hard, there will be many ups and downs, good days and not so good days but those boys are fighters and we know we are going to get through all of this and the boys will be with us in no time driving us crazy!
