So Sorry!

Im very sorry that I have not been updating the blog, it has been a very busy couple of weeks and our laptop broke so its been difficult to update the blog but here i am today am the boys are doing GREAT! I will try soon to post up pictures.

Victor: He is doing really going and gaining lots of weight! The little guy is now about 3lbs 10oz and the best part is we got the chance to dress him up! He is down to minimal settings on his nasal cannula so hopefully it won't be too long before he can come off of it.  The last head scan he had showed that his bleeds are getting better, he has another scan tomorrow so hopefully that one will show more improvement. The doctors are talking about putting his intestines back together on Friday, we are very excited about that and cant wait until that is done because then we he can focus on eating and getting fat so we can take him home.

Carlos: The little man is doing good, so good that he is completly off any oxygen! They took him off his nasal cannula and he is doing great off of it. He weighs about 2lbs 8oz so he is a little smaller than his brother but he is very fiesty. Last Thursday he had to get eye surgery because he developed a severe case of ROP so they went ahead and did a laser surgery and today the doctor said that he is very pleased with the way everything went. His last head scan showed that everything was stable with a slight increase in the size of his ventricles so hopefully tomorrow we will know more about how he is doing.

I will try to update whenever Ihave a chance and hopefully I can post up some pictures soon for everyone to see.

Carlos: Last time I wrote I said that they are taking Carlos off his ventilator, instead of going straight to a high-flow oxygen set up they put him on CPAP which is basically a mask that forces more air into his lungs and helps him get the hang of breathing. Well he did so good on that a couple days later they put him on a regular high-flow oxygen so now we can finally get a good look at his little face! More importantly Iliana finally got to hold the little guy. They were getting a little worried about his feedings because this poop was a little watery but it has gotten better. They are feeding him around the clock now though instead of the 12cc he was getting he is getting a continuos feed so like 2 or 3cc every hour instead of they whole thing every 3 hours. He had an eye exam and so far everything is looking normal. This boy right here is already extremly spoiled, and he definetly knows how to throw a fit!

Victor: Not much has changed with him. They still have him off his feeds but he is still getting everything he needs through IVs, and they are working great because he now weights 2 pounds 12 ounces! They are hoping to start feeding him again next week but they want to get him high-flow settings down a little bit more. They also checked his eyes and everything is looking good with him so far. We cannot get over the fact that he is gaining so much weight they say that a little bit of that might be because he is swollen but he is still doing really good!

No More Ventilators!

Carlos: Today our little man will be coming off of his ventilator! We never thought this would happen and today Iliana will be able to hold him. He is doing so good, they have upped his feeding to 11cc and is off of the IV nutrients completely. He had a head scan yesterday and there are no changes at all. This is such a big day for him and we are very excited we will finally be able to hear him cry and see his face without everything on him. I will try to get pictures up as soon as I can.

Victor: So he had to have a procedure done on Monday because he was not going poop like he was supposed to so they put some dye down into his intestines to see what was going on but it seems like he just doesn't like to poop or something because nothing seems wrong, they put him on a laxative to see if that will help and as soon as he passes all the dye out of his system they will begin feeding him again. His head scan also can back with no changes at all, and besides that not too much has been going on with him we have just been waiting to see what he wants to do next.

We are so excited that both of our boys will be off of the ventilators, this is a huge accomplishment and we hope that they continue to grow and stay in the right path. We want to thank everyone that comes to this page for their thoughts and prayers it really means alot to us.

Finally An Update!

First off I'm sorry to everyone that i have not updated our blog in a really long time. I come with plenty of pictures and good news though so hang tight.

Carlos:
Ok last time I was on here Carlos had just gotten his surgery. The doctors have been very pleased with the progress of his stomach. They started on feeds again this past Monday and he has been taking to them very well, they started at 1cc every 3 hours and are now up to 2cc. The bleeding on his brain has stabilized there were no changes last time he had a scan, so in the next couple days he will have another one to see how everything is up there. He is completely off all support medications, and has turned down his sedatives alot, to try and wake him up and get him a little more active. Now last night when i went in to my surprise our little man was off the JET ventilator, something we didn't think would ever happen, so next step is off a ventilator completely like his brother but Carlos being Carlos is probably gonna make us wait for a little while. The little man finally hit the 2 pound mark, and i even think he was smiling the other night. We have come to learn with Carlos patience is key he really likes to take his time and be babied.

Victor:

So as you have seen we can now hold our little Victor. The first time Iliana got to do some kangaroo care which is when they put him inside the shirt and let them have skin to skin contact which helps keep the little guy warm, and they both loved it! Since then we have held him, and we cannot wait until our little Carlos decides its time for us to hold him too. They had started feeding him the same time as Carlos and he was doing good but they had to stop because his stomach started to get a little big and he was not pooping, that caused a little worry but a couple days after he finally started to pass everything through so we think they are gonna try again with the feeds on Monday. He has been doing great off his ventilator and is off all sedation meds. His last head scan came back with no changes so he has another next week to see how things are going. Even though he has not been getting his feeds he is on IVs getting everything he needs and the little guy is now around 2 pounds 5oz!

Update

Ok first I'm sorry that i have not posted any updates all week, but it has been a tough one. Tuesday was a fairly calm day, Victor was doing well recovering from his surgery. Carlos was also very quiet and not much had changed. The doctors told us that they had never seen a baby turn around from a surgery the way Victor did, everyone is very proud of our boys and say that they have not had a set of twins like ours in a long time. Wednesday Carlos decided that he would do as he wanted and follow his brother. Now Carlos was not as sick, well did not show as much as his brother did and needed to have the same surgery Wednesday afternoon. He made it through fighting, the doctors were very pleased the way the surgery went and are very hopeful for our little guy. So for the next 14 days both boys will be on antibiotics and that will be the next time they try and feed them again. Since all of that both of the boys are doing well right now, it seems like they both want off of the ventilators so we will see how that goes these coming days. Yesterday they both had another brain scan. Carlos has not changed and is still in the same place he was last time. Victor on the other hand has gotten worse. They now say he has stage 3 and stage 4 bleeding. We can only try and stay positive we know that somewhere down the line they could have problems but we will cross that road when we get there right now it is day by day and today our boys are fighting strong and doing good, so with the bad news we do have that to be happy about.

The worst day yet...

Today has just been a really bad day for Victor. We got a call last night before we went to sleep and they let us know that Victor had to get one of the drains put back in because it looked like his stomach was acting up again, somewhere between that time and 1:30am he really took a turn for the worst. They called us again and said that we should come in because Victor was really sick and they did not know if he would make it through the night. That was probably the longest 20 minute car ride of our life. It seemed as if the world was coming down around us, when we got there we could tell that he was really sick, they had him stabilized but just by looking at him he didn't look good. We just wanted to be there for our little man, at around 8 in the morning the head doctor came to see us and talked to us about what needed to be done. They told us that if our little boy did not receive a surgery that he would die. A surgery would be the only way they could really see what was going on in his stomach and fix it the way it needed to be. The surgery would not come without risks though they gave Victor only a 25% chance of even surviving the surgery. Like i have said many times before our little men are fighters! The odds have been against them since they were still in the womb so we knew that that number didn't apply to our little guy, and about 2 hours after they started the surgery our little man was recovering nicely. The surgery went better than they had expected they were able to really get a good look inside and clean him out, they took out the infected part of his intestine and were happy that not much of it had been infected. The next couple of days will be rough for Victor it will be a difficult time but as we all know this little guy shows no signs of giving up. Now his brother Los (Iliana is gonna kill me for calling him that..haha) is actually doing really good they have been able to go down on his ventilator settings even more and the drains in his stomach are doing well. They say the wont try and feed him again for another 2 weeks but he is gaining a little weight. So things have been pretty quiet for Los the last couple of days, now he has a tendency to play follow the leader with his big brother but we are hoping this is one day he will not try and repeat.
